FIDELIO - Beethoven from:Roma/Il Giornale di Napoli.

Deafening applause for this 'Fidelio'

[..]with great and deserved success, the cultural association 'Vox Lirika' under Jonathan Barry's baton presented 'Fidelio' to the Neapolitan public.

It was a noble and generous undertaking, demanding immense dedication and good will, with very little funding available.for which we also thank the generosity of the Anglican Church and the Goethe Institute. [..]with enormous study and immense cultural dedication, the artistic life of the city was awarded a show of memorable relevance. [..] Accompanied by the excellent Roberto Moreschi, who gave us an marvellous sense of orchestra.. ,

[..] these young and highly disciplined singers sang their hearts outLeonora, the protagonist, was Gloria Mazza, very precise and always expressive , with a dramatic Florestan in Saverio Stornaiuolo, and a tense (if slightly tenorish) Marco Cristarella Orestano, in the role of Pizarro. Gianvito Ribba, Rocco, was powerful of voice, and dedicated in expression; with Luca Lupoli an elegant Jaquino and the excellent Roberta Andaḷ (Marzelline) , perhaps the most mature artist of the evening (certainly with the best pronunciation) in the group. Noble, at the end of the opera, the Fernando of Antonio de Lisio. [...]

Le Nozze di Figaro. Roma/Il Giornale di Napoli

After almost a thirty-year absence, Mozart's beautiful music returns to Naples. It was a courageous undertaking, with an excellent Vincenzo Caruso at the piano and Irene Rigillo as conductor. The well-designed costumes by Anna-Maria Morelli were totally appropriate. There was, naturally, a very full cast, all singing with loving seriousness, all of them happy and communicative in their joy of making music. Jonathan Barry, guiding the whole undertaking, sang the role of the Count with nobility and a sense of theatre, confronting the terrible passages (Act II, and 'Contessa perdono') with great skill; then the brilliant, and in many ways, already mature and very communicative Marco Cristarella Orestano, as Figaro, the witty and appropriate Marisa Ratta (Marcellina), and the exquisite Roberta Maione in a delicate elegaic vein as Barbarina. All the others were excellent, extremely musical and incisive both as actors and musicians

For all this, we hope that the opera of the 'poor', so highly qualified with its enthusiasm and culture, may continue to live and grow.

Letter to the Corriere del Mezzogiorno from Paola

Surprise Opera on Capri.

[...] At Villa San Michele at Anacapri I saw 'The Elixir of Love' and 'The Marriage of Figaro', brought to the stage by a company of young singers..These were two beautiful and clean productions, honest and detailed in their stage movements, faithful to the spirit of the music. On the stage young singers sang with well-trained voices, and acted in elegant costumes. All of them were able to be totally convincing in their roles.
